Read SimpURL analytics

Choose an account or campaign report, understand traffic sources and platform limits, compare periods, and save a useful reporting default.

Choose the report scope and period

  1. Open Analytics from the workspace navigation.
  2. For advanced analytics, use Report scope to choose All links or a campaign. A campaign scope follows the links currently assigned to that campaign.
  3. Under Reporting period, choose 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 180 days when your plan allows it.
  4. Select Refresh analytics after a launch, assignment change, or test click when you need a fresh response.

Interpret sources, platforms, and visitor details

SimpURL records click events from the redirect flow and normalizes a source from the referrer host. The report can also show browser, operating system, IP address, and user-agent details when they were provided by the request.

  • A missing or private referrer is shown as Direct / private. Referrer policies, privacy tools, app handoffs, and HTTPS-to-HTTP transitions can remove or reduce referrer detail.
  • QR code is a dedicated source when the QR redirect flow marks the click as QR. A screenshot, copied URL, or third-party QR code cannot be reliably classified as QR.
  • Platform labels such as X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Gmail are inferred from the referring hostname. They are not proof of identity, campaign membership, or a user action inside that platform.
  • Preview crawlers and link scrapers do not run the browser click beacon, which prevents most phantom clicks. Unknown automation that behaves like a browser may still be recorded, and user-agent values can be missing or spoofed.
  • Estimated visitors are based on distinct recorded IP values and are an estimate, not a person count. Shared networks, VPNs, carrier NAT, and privacy controls affect the estimate.

Use reporting ranges and compare periods correctly

The available reporting range is plan-capped: Free up to 14 days, Starter up to 90 days, and Pro and Teams up to 180 days. The report offers the same 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, 90 days, and 180 days choices, but longer choices are unavailable when they exceed the current plan cap. This describes the selectable reporting range, not a separate data-retention policy.

  1. Choose the current Reporting period first.
  2. Turn on Compare previous period. The timeline places the prior period beside the current period by aligned day number.
  3. Read Current period, Previous period, and Period change together; a zero previous baseline is reported as New activity rather than a percentage change.
  4. When the preferred range is saved successfully, the selected range becomes your analytics default for that workspace context. A failed save still leaves the range active for the current session.

Share a read-only report safely

  1. Open Share from an advanced analytics report, or open Read-only analytics for a campaign report.
  2. Under Access expires, choose In 1 day, In 7 days, In 30 days, Custom date and time, or No expiration, then select Generate access.
  3. Copy both the Invite URL and the separate Passcode. The passcode is shown once when access is created, and the viewer does not need a SimpURL account.
  4. To stop access early, return to Shared access and select Revoke for that invite. Each invite can be revoked independently.
  5. To rotate a credential without changing the invite URL, select Reset passcode. The new passcode is shown once; the old passcode and existing viewer sessions stop working.

Best practices

  • Use a campaign scope for launch reporting and All links for workspace-level planning; keep the selected scope visible when comparing results.
  • Treat Direct / private and Unknown values as measurement limitations, not as proof that traffic was unattributed or invalid.
  • Use the same period length for repeated weekly or monthly reviews, then use Compare previous period for directional change.
  • Protect exports and shared reports because detailed click data may include IP, referrer, browser, operating system, and user-agent fields.

Troubleshooting

  • Advanced analytics is unavailable: it requires Pro or Teams. Starter and Free still provide the basic click-trend experience within their reporting ranges.
  • A range is missing: it exceeds the current plan cap. Check Settings or the current pricing comparison before changing plans.
  • Traffic is lower than expected: check the selected scope, reporting period, filters, QR tagging, and whether the visitor reached a browser page that can send the click beacon.
  • The report appears stale after reassignment: select Refresh analytics and confirm the link is still assigned to the campaign scope you selected.
