Namespaces and domain mappings
Create readable URL prefixes and route matching destination hosts into the right namespace.
Create a namespace
Open Settings, select Link setup, and find Namespaces. Namespaces are optional prefixes for brands, clients, and projects. The namespace name is normalized to lowercase and spaces become hyphens.
- Open Settings at /dashboard/settings and select Link setup.
- In Namespaces, select Add.
- Enter a unique name in Namespace name, then select Create namespace.
- Return to the link form and select the namespace in Custom URL.
Map a destination host
In the same Link setup area, select Domain mappings. A mapping associates a destination host with a namespace so the link form and Smart Paste can suggest the matching organization.
- Select Domain mappings.
- Enter an exact host such as acme.com or shop.acme.com, or a leading wildcard such as *.acme.com.
- Choose the destination namespace and select Add.
- Remove a mapping from the existing mappings list when it should no longer apply.
Understand matching
A wildcard matches its base host and subdomains. When multiple patterns match, an exact host is more specific than a wildcard, and the most specific wildcard wins. A mapping does not require DNS changes because it is a SimpURL organization rule, not a hosted custom domain.
- Use an exact host when one site should always file separately.
- Use a wildcard when the base host and its subdomains should share one namespace.
- After mapping, focus the destination field or use Smart Paste to see the namespace and slug suggestion.
When a mapping is unavailable
If Domain mappings is disabled, check the current plan in Settings or /pricing. If there are no usable namespaces, create one first. A namespace outside the current plan allowance is shown as plan locked and cannot be selected for a new link.
